IFLRY seminar: 'Democratic Challenges - Solving by Participating'
Young Liberals from around the world gathered in
Stockholm from the 11th-15th June to discuss
democratic challenges and to look for solutions.
The seminar participants discussed topics such as
elections, populism and democracy 2.0, and
learned about democratic institutions, democracy
as a culture and youth participation.
Successful training of IFLRY Belarus Programme in Kiev
Between 17th and 20th May, the IFLRY Belarus
Programme hosted a training event on "Political Ideology
and Theory" for Belarusian and Ukrainian youth activists.
The event was attended by about 20 activists from
different organizations and backgrounds. The training was
made possible by the support of D66 Democraten of the
Netherlands and their associated foundation International Democratic Initiative (IDI).
Further support was also granted by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF).
IFLRY hosts LGBTQ Panel at ELDR Meeting in Armenia
IFLRY, in cooperation with the Dutch liberal parties D66
and VVD, organised a fringe meeting at the Council
Meeting of the European Liberals and Democrats Reform
Party (ELDR) on the topic of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transperson and queer) rights in Southern
IFLRY standing together with peaceful demonstrators in Baku
Last month, Azerbaijan was not only the host of the Eurovision
Song Contest, it was also the stage for a week of IFLRY training
sessions. The participants included representatives of IFLRY
member organizations Musavat Youth and DALGA, as well as a
number of representatives from newly formed liberal-minded
organizations. IFLRY Bureau members Naomi Ichihara Rokkum and Ivo Thijssen attended
the event. Numerous demonstrations and arrests took place in the run-up to Eurovision.
The arrests included IFLRY participants. IFLRY expressed grave concerns regarding the
European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) elects new leadership
European young liberals gathered in Copenhagen in May to elect a new leadership for
LYMEC, the regional liberal youth organization in Europe. The Congress was hosted by
Radikal Ungdom and Venstres Ungdom and was preceded by a seminar on the European
Digital Agenda. Elected to the Bureau were Jeroen Diepemaat as President, Vedrana
Gujic as Vice-President, Anne van der Graaf as Treasurer and Claudia Benchescu, Igor
Caldeira, Sissel Kvist and Ed Sanderson as Bureau Members.
