Last weekend, was the Executive Committee of Liberal International in Cancun, Mexico. The topic for the meeting was 'Migration, analyzing the challenges it poses for the 21st Century'. Liberals from around the world was meeting up to discuss this topic together with the other normal EC agenda points. From IFLRY side we were represented with Paola and myself from the bureau, as well as Roger Albinyana from Catalonia, president of LYMEC.
Besides getting to know the Mexican weather (very hot for a Danish person like myself J) and culture, we were present in the different political discussions on the elements of migration, as the sessions covered. During the days in Mexico, many interesting speakers gave their views on the challenges of migration and the liberal approaches towards these challenges.
One of the highlights of the event was the live video session from our liberal friends from Cuba who had a chance to speak their case in front of the liberals of the world. For IFLRY, this was especially thrilling, as we have been putting the issue of Cuba as one of our main priorities in the recent years. We were extremely happy to see LI putting the same focus here.
Hopefully one day we can have these meetings with our Cuban friends in person anywhere in the world, instead of via videoconferences.
