  • Call: IFLRY Bureau Vice President 2010-2011

    (Find the Treasurer call here)

    Background:

    One of the four Vice Presidents of the IFLRY Bureau, Mauricio Lopez (Libertarian Youth, Costa Rica), has decided to resign from his position. Due to recent developments – fortunate and unfortunate - in his personal circumstances he believes he does not have sufficient amount of time to perform at the level required for the IFLRY Bureau. As a result there is a vacancy for this position in the IFLRY Bureau. An Extraordinary General Assembly has been called by the Bureau in which this vacancy can be filled through elections. This EGA will take place during the previously announced Executive Committee meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, from the 6th to the 8th of August. At elections, all Full Members who have paid their membership fees have the right to vote on a candidate. More information about the procedure here .

    Description:

    The Vice Presidents play a central role in the Bureau as active contributors to the further growth of the Federation. Their responsibilities include the development and execution of the Plan of Action, in which they work closely together as well as with the President in the achievement of the vertical objectives and provide support to the achievement of the horizontal functions. Vice Presidents take over clearly defined responsibilities and authorities and are directly accountable for them. Also, they keep an eye out on political developments around the world to spot situations in which liberal values are under threat and where young liberals need additional support.

    Some important qualities for a Vice President are:
    - A positive, entrepreneurial mind set;
    - Experience with liberal politics and liberal youth and student organizations;
    - Strong sense of responsibility;
    - Sufficient amount of time available (min. 8 hours a week);

    All Bureau positions are voluntary. Financial coverage is provided for essential events like Executive Committees, General Assemblies and auditor meetings. The person elected will be in office until the next general elections at the General Assembly in November/December 2011.

    Procedure:

    Only official representatives (President, Secretary General, International Officer, etc.) of Full Members of the International Federation of Liberal Youth can nominate candidates for the elections. In case of vacancies in between regular elections, nominations can be received up to the start of the agenda item 'Bureau elections' of the Extraordinary General Assembly. The candidate will have to be present at the EGA in order to present her/his nomination. Candidates are also strongly encouraged to depart from St Petersburg not earlier than Monday the 9th of August at noon, in order to take part in the post-EC Bureau meeting, if elected.

    Please submit your nominations to office@iflry.org . You may enclose your CV and a motivation letter, which will be disseminated among the Member Organizations if submitted at least one week before the start of the EGA.

  • Call: Belarus Programme Manager 2010-2011

    Dear IFLRY Member Organisations,

    The IFLRY Bureau is looking for a Programme Manager (BPM) for IFLRY's work on Belarus from summer 2010 to summer 2011. This term will be particulary interesting due to the upcoming Presidential election in Belarus! Last Presidential elections IFLRY MOs contributed strongly, amongst others by reporting to BBC and other media, and this time we want to enhance the liberal support even further. The BPM will therefore focus on the upcoming elections and engaging member organizations in setting up and coordinating their Belarus related activities.

    There are several issues for 2010/2011 that the Programme Manager would be working on:

    1. Prepare the international liberal youth support for the pro-democracy movement in the 2011 Presidential election.
    2. Review the structure and partners of the Young Liberals for Belarus Platform.
    3. Keeping a calendar with the various Belarus-related projects undertaken by YLBP affiliates, as well as updating the database of contacts and partner organizations on the basis of these projects.
    4. Developing of IFLRY policy recommendations on the situation in Belarus.
    5. Look for funding for a solidarity mission in 2011 and organise it.

    There may be more issues coming up in the course of the year and the Programme Manager is free to come up with own ideas as well. He/she will be working together with the IFLRY Bureau Members responsible for our Liberal Solidarity Programmes as well as other volunteers. There is no financial compensation available but working for an international organization is an enriching experience for yourself and for your résumé.

    The person in question does not need to be a Belarus expert but should have the enthusiasm and inspiration to contribute to this very important initiative. The person should be active in an IFLRY Member Organisation and have general knowledge about Belarus and democracy promotion.

    If you are interested, please send an e-mail with your CV and short motivation letter to IFLRY Vice President (naomi@iflry.org). Please send this no later than the 5th of June, after which the appointment will be made public.

    For questions on the position, please contact Naomi and former Programme Manager Karin Brissman Wigren (karin@iflry.org).

    Best regards,

    IFLRY Bureau
