Types of Events
IFLRY regularly organizes a variety of events in different parts of the world, mostly in close cooperation with its member organizations. Besides our annual statutory events, there's a wide range of other activities which are shortly described below. Regardless of this variety, they all have one thing in common: participants always go home with many new experiences and plenty of friends from all over the planet!
Statutory events
General Assembly
Our main statutory event is the General Assembly (GA), which takes place at least every two years. The GA elects the bureau members and the auditors, it adopts financial reports, programs of action and resolutions, it questions the bureau regarding its work and policies and it decides over membership issues (membership fees, membership applications, membership expulsions).
The General Assembly consists of representatives of all the Member Organizations, which are elected on the bases of their own national procedures. The votes at a GA are distributed according to a predetermined scale of the size of the MOs.
Executive Committee
The second statutory event is the Executive Committee (EC), which takes place at least once, but mostly twice a year. The EC has many similar tasks as the GA, though has limited formal powers as every present MO only has one voting right. The EC adopts resolutions, discusses the budget and takes decisions that need urgent action. There's always an EC prior to a General Assembly.
Educational events
Seminars and study sessions
IFLRY regularly organizes seminars and study sessions for its Member Organizations. Topics can range widely, from minority rights to international trade, and from political youth participation to media violence. The aim of these events is to educate individual members of our Member Organizations on a certain issue, so they can serve as 'multipliers' when they go back home. People do not only learn a lot from the many speakers we invite, but also from their interaction with their fellow liberals from all over the world.
Training courses
Training courses are events in which we specifically educate individual members of our Member Organizations on political and organizational skills. How to organize effective campaigns? How do you run an effective organization? How can you involve young people in the political debate? Just like our other events, participants often learn a lot by simply listening to their friends and colleagues from other organizations.
Others
The world is at our feet. We are always looking for opportunities for IFLRY representatives (bureau members or individual members of our Member Organizations) to take part in all sorts of events. Fact-finding or election observer missions, international conferences, statutory events of other international organizations, etcetera. Just keep a close watch on our events calendar!
