Re: When is Independence Day in Western Sahara?

Imagine my surprise yesterday, when SABC 3 News informed me (and everyone else watching) that if you question the right of the monarchy in Morroco, they can and will imprison you and turn you into somebody's squeaky treat!

Thankfully i am the foremost liberal proponent of the divine right of monarchy, in every country, believing that if God authorises the monarchy to act for and on behalf of the people, such that the monarchy has rights, over and above the normal rights of the general citizenry, then that monarchy must also assume sole responsibility for any failures in social welfare development and slow economic growth; and put in place such measures - again with the assistance of God - to remedy such social instability.

but the relief i felt knowing that I'm the King's man, and therefore "safe" - quickly ebbed away as news presenter said... "or if you question Morroco's right to Western Sahara..."

Morrocco's right to Western Sahara? Huh? Isn't that like South Africa assuming that it has the right to the entire SADC region, bcos our economy is more than 50% of the SADC economy? On my map Western Sahara looks like its own country, so why would another country have a right over it?

I found the following link http://www.newint.org/issue297/contents.html but what I'm not sure about is this:

    1. Where is Morocco? Its obviously not in Africa, because if it was, it would be a member of the African Union

    2. Western Sahara is a member of the African Union - and in order to be a member of the AU - you have to actually be a country

So Morocco is not part of Africa, but somehow or the other, Morroco is the legitimate owner of the AU member state known as Western Sahara... that sounds suspiciously like when Britain wasn't part of Africa - but it owned large chunks of Africa... colonialism we called it then... now Im not so sure - people say Morocco is just above Western Sahara, so its really just over-exhuberant neighbourlyness - that's why Morroco is entitled to Western Sahara... NOT!

Come on! what kind of imbeciles do you take us for?

So i ask again... because i have nothing to fear... when is independence day in the République Arabe Sahraouie Démocratique (Western Sahara) ?

Re: When is Independence Day in Western Sahara?

    Hello Avishkar,

I had Saharaoui people here at my place almost 15 years ago on a political inform, most of them were women who fought for their country. In the early 90ies in Spain, in university, they were looking for young students in order to observe the elections there. Till now, nothing changed, but it seems to me that sahraoui people, at least some of them found a way to make their live. Since the situation in so many arab countries got more tense, international politics are interested in a stable and no more so much in a democratic Morocco.

I think we as liberals shall claim for an open society in this country, but we have also to think about what we can do to fight poverty there. It is really strange, that in Portugal now construction workers come from Ucraine and no more from Morocco e.g. In many European countries is a lack of staff for simpler work which is not been done by the local people, while Moroccan men and women would be glad to come for some month and to earn five times there local wage. If people have a future of living a life with dignity in Morocco, this country does not need any more something to put on the table for reaching a national consensus or keeping the citizen's mind away from other problems.

It is like  the Malvinas in Argentina during the last military regime. Instead of solving economic crisis and stopping the killing of the poltical enemy, they went to war to put the public opinion behind them. And so it was there when Franco died.

Re: When is Independence Day in Western Sahara?

    Dear Ralph

How are you? How's the hotel business? I told someone the other day to get a bright orange Opel, they didnt understand, but i figure that you would ;)

In respect to the Morroco / Western Sahara indaba... may i say that i initially asked bcos i though it would be interesting to see what celebrations are held in Western Sahara to mark their independence day, each year.

After all i live on the south south-east of Africa and Western Sahara is on the north north-west of Africa; and since i know what we do to mark our independence - i figured it would be good to find out what they do... u know the Americans have fireworks and professional sports contests, the South African we tend to sing and dance a lot - and every five years we throw in an election.

However I am concerned that Western Sahara doesnt seemt to have such a day. from what you have said it seems like Western Sahara is some part of Morroco? that cant be right, because Morroco is NOT a member of the African Union, while Western Sahara is a founding member.

You speak of the need for peace in Western Sahara,  but surely this means that if somebody was attacking Western Sahara, from outside of the African Union, then that attack would be an attack on the AU as a whole, by a foreign enemy?

I understand that enlargement of the EU has led to the North African Mediteranean countries losing their "first choice sweatshop" status for the European economy, which has led to unemployment in North Africa; and further that these economies had previously competed with Spain and Portugal (among others) for the right to supply agricultural produce to the EU, and that when Spain and Portugal became members of the EC in the mid 1980's things started to slide, since Portugal and Spain could now supply goods tarriff free in the EC.

But why should Western Sahara suffer because Morroco couldn't follow the example of countries like Algeria in respect of job creation and poverty alleviation? Why, because theres easy money to made form the oil or gas or something in the Western Saharan sands?

Lets arm the Western Saharans - give them tanks, planes, ships, trains, trucks, armoured personnel carriers, attack helicopters, ground to air missiles, bombs and maybe some automatic rifles and tonnes of munitions, explosives and other such military hardware... after all we make all this stuff in Africa anyway. lets train their national army, deploy an AU peacekeeping force to improve the capacity of the Western Saharan armed forces and then...

Should anyone attack them - then at least by the time the AU launches its response to this foreign attack- at least the Western Saharans will be able to defend themselves - in pursuit of their god given right to self determination.

By the way... 29 Feb (1976) is independence day in Western Sahara... thats like next week sometime... Happy Independence Day from the people of the African Union... ;)

Re: When is Independence Day in Western Sahara?

it turns out that there are only 29 days in february in every "leap year" which is every four years.

     so in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 Western Sahara gets a independence day...

not very bright planning on their part... although

if theres a quarter of a day each year then nothing stops us taking that quarter now, like right now... between the 28th Feb and the 1st March

So lets have a two and a quarter day celebration 28th Feb - 1st March... just to piss off anyone who tried to shyster the Western Saharans out of having an independence day every year :-)

     VIVA LA LIBERTE!

TEFL certification can be obtained in a variety of ways. There are distance-learning courses to advanced university degrees available at varying costs from hundreds to thousands java certification dumps of pounds. However, TEFL courses have gained much popularity recently and therefore it should not be difficult to find a course in your locality that fits your schedule scwcd and budget. The best place to begin looking for a TEFL course is at a nearby certified language centre. If you are a current university student there should be courses available to you while you pursue your degree. Note that there are other certifications that are very similar to TEFL such as CTEFLA (Certificate of…), DTEFLA (Diploma of…), and TESOL (Teachers of English to security+ Speakers of Other Languages) which are also recognised as qualifications to teach English. It is important to remember that there are a variety of different courses that have different formats mcse and class structures, even though they may all be labelled as TEFL. Do your research and compare programmes. The most reputable programmes follow the Cambridge model of instruction and are available all over the world.

The problem of DALGA to make all that Azerbaijan integrated into the Europe. DALGA cooperates with Soros's house, with embassy of the USA, with University Republikants and with the House of the Europe in Azerbaijan. But it needs to be reached the purpose and to change the country to the best and to make its part of the Europe more democratic and liberal. We want to cooperate with IFRLY.

Re: When is Independence Day in Western Sahara?

One of the clearest lessons of the last few decades is that capitalism is indestructible. Marx compared it to a vampire, and one of the salient points of70-647comparison now appears to be that70-649always rise up again after being stabbed to death. Even Mao’s attempt, in the Cultural Revolution, to wipe out the traces of capitalism, ended up in its triumphant return646-204. Today’s Left reacts in a wide variety of ways to the hegemony of global capitalism and its political supplement, liberal democracy. It might, for example, accept the hegemony70-646, but continue to fight for reform within its rules (this is Third Way social democracy).
