Becoming part of IFLRY
IFLRY is an association of liberal youth organisations. There is no individual membership. Every youth or student organisation in agreement with the aims of IFLRY and its principles expressed in the Manifesto and the resolutions has the right to apply for membership in IFLRY.
The admission of new members is subject to the following conditions:
Full members: Every organization wishing to become a member of IFLRY can apply for full membership after at least one year candidate member status, and can be admitted by a two-thirds majority of those present and voting at the General Assembly.
Candidate members: Candidate membership status can be granted by the General Assembly or the Executive Committee by simple majority and gives organization all rights inside IFLRY except voting rights at statutory meetings. Candidate membership will lapse after four years.
Observing members: Organizations wishing to cooperate closely with IFLRY without fulfilling the criteria for membership may be granted observer status. The observer status is to be granted by the General Assembly or the Executive Committee by simple majority, and gives the organization rights inside IFLRY to be decided by the Bureau.

- All membership applications must be received at the IFLRY secretariat at least eight weeks prior to the start of the Executive meeting or General Assembly at which the applicant organization wishes their application to be considered. These must be additional to those meeting where the Candidate Membership application was accepted.
Observer Status
Observer status is not a stepping stone towards Candidate Membership. It should be specifically for organizations who wish to have a close relationship with IFLRY but do not have any immediate intention to become Member Organizations. Observers do not necessarily need to be youth organizations, nor do they need to be so closely associated with the ideological or political standpoints of IFLRY. Observer Status should not normally be given to an organization who is simply considering a Candidate Membership application but have not yet fulfilled the criteria or time/ meeting attendance, etc. Organizations can and will be invited to attend IFLRY activities without needing to have Observer Status.
- The applicant organization must provide copies of its Statutes/Constitution in their original form and in at least one of IFLRY's official languages.
- The applicant organization must provide copies of its Policy Programme/ Ideological standpoint in at least one of IFLRY's official languages and in its original form if that is not in one of IFLRY's official languages.
- The applicant organization must provide a full written application in one of IFLRY's official languages detailing exactly why it wishes to become an Observer in IFLRY.
- The applicant organization must have attended at least one IFLRY event prior to making the application. For purposes of defining such an event, a seminar linked to an Executive or General Assembly is to be considered the same event, therefore the application cannot be made at that Executive or General Assembly.
- All Observer Status applications must be received at the IFLRY secretariat at least eight weeks prior to the start of the Executive or General Assembly meeting at which the applicant organization wishes their application to be considered. All required written material must also be provided by this deadline. It is the responsibility of the applicant organization to ensure that all material reach the IFLRY secretariat on time.
