Under pressure: The fight for Democracy in Eastern Europe

Workshop
Online

Eastern Europe and liberalism share a special connection. Many countries in the region freed themselves from Soviet and socialist regimes only a few decades ago, and without catching a break, they now face Russian aggression, coupled with democratic backsliding at home.

Our webinar will focus on four countries: one at war, two in the middle of a massive democratic struggle, and one that has finally managed to vote out its authoritarian government.
With a speaker from each country, we will hear the latest developments and, most importantly, learn what we can do to help our friends in their fight.

The webinar will include:
- An update from Ukrainian civil society, balancing the fight for democracy with survival amid Russia’s brutal invasion
- Serbia’s protests and the aftermath of the elections
- Georgia’s protests against an ever more ruthless government
- Hungary as it navigates its post-authoritarian period

The event starts on Sunday the 14th of November at 14:00CET
