Youth as the Solution to the Rise of Xenophobia: Focusing on Refugees and Antigypsyism

Seminar
Sofia, Bulgaria
-

Deadline:

Across Europe, exclusionary rhetoric is on the rise, and young people are uniquely positioned to push back. This training activity, organised by the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY) in partnership with the Council of Europe's European Youth Foundation, brings together young leaders from across CoE member states to move beyond theory and take meaningful action.

Taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria, the event creates a dedicated space to deconstruct the mechanisms of xenophobia, with a particular focus on antigypsyism and anti-refugee sentiment. Grounded in lived experiences and intersectional analysis, participants will examine how structural discrimination operates, challenge exclusionary narratives, and build counter-narratives rooted in solidarity and inclusion.

The Aim

To empower youth to identify and challenge xenophobia and structural exclusion, especially as it targets Roma communities and refugees, and to strengthen youth-led responses built on inclusion and solidarity.

What You Will Do

  • Deepen your understanding of the intersectional nature of xenophobia in Europe, focusing on antigypsyism and anti-refugee sentiment
  • Develop tools to critically reflect on narratives of exclusion and craft your own counter-narratives
  • Design a concrete local action concept to bring back to your community
